June’s Strawberry Picking Date

For June’s date, we decided to go strawberry picking! To avoid the heat, we got up early and set off to get our hands dirty.

Content:

Several strawberry picking places to choose from.

Cost:

$20 for the bucket and entrance fee.

Carlsbad Strawberry Company
1000 Cannon Road
Carlsbad, CA 92008

Located right off the I-5 on Cannon Road, the strawberry field feels slightly out of place next to the highway. After paying for admission and the bucket, we picked the far corner of the field and started working on filling our bucket. We were the first ones there, so it was nice and relaxing in the quiet breezy morning. The air smelled fresh and sweet from all the overripe strawberries sitting idly on the vines. Some of them were already mushy and turn to juice at the first touch. At first I was eager to fill our bucket with any decent looking strawberry. However, we became a lot more selective when we realized how many strawberries there were, and how small our bucket actually was. We started looking for the biggest and prettiest strawberries, but we also ran into a lot of ugly ones in the process.

The final haul.

We had a great time that day. It was a good way to spend some quality time together on a lazy Saturday morning and try something new.

Tips:

  • Protect yourself from the scorching sun. We went on a gloomy morning, so make sure you bring sunscreen, hats, and water if you go later in the day.
  • Bring wet tissues and/or hand sanitizer. Some of the strawberries are overly ripe so your hands are bound to get dirty and sticky.
