[Recommend] San Diego’s Liberty Public Market

It’s finally here! San Diego’s very own version of Anaheim’s Packing District, Seattle’s Pike Place, San Francisco’s Ferry Building. Freshly opened just last week on March 21, San Diego’s Liberty Public Market offers a plethora of food choices and local goods, making it the first successful stationary sort of farmer’s market. Make your way to Liberty Station for your one-stop marketplace, with 27 different vendors and more to come as it gradually expands!

Recommended [We obviously haven’t gotten a chance to try everything here, but these are a few favorites so far]:

  • Maine lobster roll at Wicked Maine Lobster: generous with their lobster portions! I like it with butter, rather than mayo.
  • Salted caramel latte at The Westbean Coffee Roasters
  • Compass Point Oyster on the half-shell at Fishbone Kitchen
  • Milles-Feuilles pastry at Le Parfait Paris
  • Any of the many selections of cheese at Venissimo Cheese

The Westbean Coffee Roasters

Le Parfait Paris: French pastries too beautiful to eat
Maine Lobster Roll at Wicked Maine Lobster
Venissimo Cheese: my personal favorite for the cheese-lover in me.

Mess hall: in-house restaurant with a constantly changing menu, showcasing all that the market’s artisans have to offer

Conclusion: Liberty Public Market has been highly anticipated for some time, originally slotted to open last year. Until it finally did, I obsessively checked its status, desperately hoping it wouldn’t open while we were still in Taiwan. Happily, it waited until just a few days after our return, and when I finally made my way over there in spite of heavy jet lag, it did not disappoint. Though the space is actually smaller than expected, the rich variety of the different types of vendors still invites many return visits. It promises to be a fun place to hang out with friends and taste what lovely San Diego county has to offer.
